SoBo Cares

South Berwick Cares is a non-profit organization that has been created because of the financial struggles of some of our town’s families.

We are a non-profit organization that raises funds to help families in need with necessities throughout the school year.  We help during the holidays and raise funds to provide after school and summer opportunities to children whose families cannot afford them.

In the past Central School’s community has responded to these needs and generously provided gifts during the holiday season.

SoBo Cares 2020 Holiday Giving

Picture

In the past, Sobo Cares has reached out to our community to help families in need during the holiday season. Your generosity has been overwhelming! We are once again reaching out for your help.

This year’s gift-giving has to be different from the past because of Covid. Also because of Covid, many more families in our community find themselves with unanticipated financial burdens. Also, we have the constraints of handling and exchanging materials, so it is not possible for Central School to store and deliver presents this year. Instead, we’ve decided to collect GIFT CARDS and distribute them to families in need. We know this is not ideal and may take away some of the joy of giving, but we can see no other way to help families.

Our goal is to collect gift cards until December 1st to give families plenty of time to shop for gifts. At that time, we’ll see what we’ve collected and will distribute them to families who can then purchase items for the holidays.

You can drop gift cards off at Central School in care of Brie Thomas, our guidance counselor, or send them to Central School, 197 Main St. South Berwick, ME. in care of Brie Thomas.

In the past families have appreciated gift cards from Walmart, Market Basket, Target, and local stores and restaurants. Gift cards from online stores would be helpful as well. Some ideas are Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Best Buy, The Children’s Place, and Old Navy or VISA gift card in any amount. Thank you so much for helping our families in need!

Many stores like Riteaid and Hannaford have gift card kiosks to buy from area and national chains to make it easier.
If you’d like to claim your donation as a tax deduction, simply keep your receipt for your taxes. Sobocares is a program of sobocentral an umbrella non profit group supporting our community.

Many thanks to all who can contribute at this time to help make the holidays brighter for some of our Central School families.
